Mayapple

Being new to all of this I am wondering if it is worth gathering Mayapple root anymore. I see there are no new posts about it in 2 years. Is it too late in season to gather Mayapple? Seems that although it may not be a well paying plant it is more readily available and may be a good experiment to start with? My 15 yr old son has some interest in all of this and looking for a good starting point. We live in NYS

Mayapple has been steady at about $3-4/dry pound for the past couple years.  It takes a lot to make a pound.  Crane's bill is easier to dig and might dry better and it is about the same price.
