I took a quick visit to a small patch of wild I know of close to the house. They look beat up.I doubt I'll ever pick that patch because they are my pets so to speak.Time it gets time to pick, I think it's all going to be hunting and  little gathering.....

I will keep you in mind next year..Abit late now.Blue cohosh is already down here...The dry weather got everything on the fast track this year.Heck the sumac is already turning...I know they use to buy sumac Bark, leaves and berries.

I asked around in july about blue cohosh and no one wanted it.So I never picked it this year...

Whats all the roots you handle?Just the stuff listed above?..

The whole reason I didn't dig hard this season was that the local root buyer passed away.Every dealer wants Seng and Seal but it's the other roots I can't sell.I had a Huge crop of Blue and Black cohosh.I didn't even pick blood root because everything needs shipped now. Also got Trillum, mayapple,Indigo up the wazoo.Virgina snake root I located enough of that to pick also but didn't.The closest dealer that buys everything is about 2.5/3 hours form me.I can't locate anyone closer.

Seng and Seal is hard to come by here.Maybe thats why. It's the only stuff we can sell local. So with some luck I'm putting back seng in seed. The little patch of seal I found is just that little.I'm leave'n those alone for planting stock if they catch on.

I seen blood root go from 6 a pound to start and it was 10 a pound now.Snakeroot I last seen was 70 a pound.Diappointed on the Cohoshes. The black was 4 a pound and the Blue had a hard to sell market.

  Good topic....  Frank

Those plants are in good shape.

The dry weather here got the plants beat up.A few have already died back for the year...

What is wrong with Captan? I'll have to go see what the lawn centers have.....Bonide..fungoil seams to be the best bet so far...I can buy that and captan in town.Heck I had to get the gypsum from a town about an hour from here.

Cultivated Ginseng / Raised bed...Mildew
« on: August 27, 2011, 08:47:34 AM »
Imade up 2 differant soil types,in two seperate beds. The one bed has a good amount of hardwood mixed in the soil. The beds have been made for about a month or better now.The bark has some type of white mildew on it.Now for what I can tell it's just surface mildew.I didn't dig into the bed in fear of mixing it in the soil.

My question is should I treat the soil before the seed goes in?If so with what?
