Who we are
I'm Brad Castle -the face behind Emerald Castle Farms. I have been interested in ginseng since my teenage years. The addiction really hit home when I finally learned how to grow this wonderful herb. I began this current operation in 2001. Shortly thereafter, I began selling rootlets and stratified seed to other growers as well as buying wild ginseng as a licensed Ohio ginseng dealer. Eventually, I added consulting and the book Growing Ginseng: A Beginners Guide to share my experiences. I am the author of numerous articles related to ginseng. Most of which are published in the Buckeye Trapper magazine and on the Emerald Castle Farms website. One of my experiences was the lack of a seeder designed to plant ginseng seed in the woods. This was the beginning of the ECF Seeder. Not only did I design this tool, but I still make them one at a time by hand.
I have been a building contractor for many years, but since 2006 have worked as a police officer while going back to school. I volunteered as a Hunter and Trapper Education Instructor for the Outdoor Skills Unit of the Ohio Division of Wildlife for approximately fifteen years. I still voluntarily serve on the Camp Michael Youth Camp Board of Directors which is a 501 3 c charitable organization. www.camp-michael.com
Educationally, I have earned an A.A.S. in Criminal Justice from North Central State College in Ohio, a B.S. in Public Safety Administration, and a masters degree in Public Administration (M.P.A., with emphasis on government and policy) from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. I look forward to completing my PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at Grand Canyon in the coming months.
Charity is our go-to root digger whether it is in the beds or in the woods. She's always right there to help with all phases of the process from planting to shipping. There is a good chance if you ordered from us, Charity was the one who took your order to the post office.
Likewise, our granddaughter Ariah always wants to help. She fills our hearts with joy and is always eager to go to the woods or help grampa in the beds and the garden. She reminds us of a large part of the reason we do what we do
What we do
Emerald Castle Farms is a division of Castle Enterprises. We sell ginseng seed and rootlets to growers and woodland flower gardeners. We occasionally have other woodland plants available, or can get them on a special request basis. We are the inventor and manufacturer of the ECF Seeder. Our seeder is designed to work through leafs, and in all sorts of soil conditions to take the strain out of planting wild simulated ginseng in unprepared ground. We hope to continue to expand our product line to provide our customers with everything they need related to the growing and responsible harvest of ginseng and other woodland botanicals.
Emerald Castle Farms also offers a collection of medicinal products. Chaga mushroom, Turkey Tail mushroom, Reshi (or Ling Zhi) products including extracts are now available. These are natural, powerful disease fighting substances which have been used for centuries. Our medicinals are sourced from responsible wildcrafters, and are 100% natural. We carefully process these into usable sizes and extracts for our customers who find them to be comparable -if not superior- to other reputable brands.
Ohio Ginseng Dealer
I have been an Ohio ginseng dealer for a number of years. This included being a licensed exporter of ginseng and goldenseal. In addition to ginseng and goldenseal, we can also buy other medicinal herbs such as black cohash, bloodroot, etc., at times when we are actively buying ginseng, or when these are in demand from our customers.

Emerald Castle Farms offers for sale live seeds and plants. Because of the perishable nature of living plants, no guarantee other than healthy, live delivery (within reason) can be made. Ginseng is a perennial plant. Like all perennial plants, ginseng seed has a very complex dormancy which requires specific circumstances and conditions to germinate when anticipated. The risk of delayed germination is always present regardless of the circumstances. Even in ideal conditions in years of excellent germination, delayed germination is almost always still present. Testimony that seed purchased from Emerald Castle Farms did not germinate the spring after planting does not automatically mean the seed was not healthy and viable when it was delivered. Further, delayed germination of ginseng seed does not rise to the level of damages of any kind. Emerald Castle Farms in its sole indisputable discretion reserves the right to recompense growers who have experienced delayed germination in any form or manner it so chooses, or not to recompense at all. In the event that Emerald Castle Farms chooses to recompense any grower, no liability, fault, or obligation exists in any manner what so ever.

Some products made available by Emerald Castle Farms may be eligible for return if they are defective. For example, ECF Seeders may be returned if they are defective. The customer must notify us of the problem as soon as possible (within 3 days of delivery) via email or phone. If we agree the item needs to be returned, the customer should mail the item back post paid. We will examine the item and replace it, or issue a refund for the purchase price. Refunds are approved in our sole discretion. Postage and shipping fees are not refundable.
Products which are damaged in shipping may be eligible for return or replacement. For example, if you purchase medicinal mushroom extracts in glass bottles, and one of the bottles is broken when it arrives, contact us right away and we will either replace the broken bottle or refund the difference upon proof of the damage (i.e., digital picture in lieu of return).Cancelling Orders
Orders may not be cancelled without a justifiable reason. Any order cancelled without justifiable reason (in our sole discretion) is subject to a 25% cancellation fee. Digital products (products which you download) are non-refundable and cannot be cancelled. If you inadvertently ordered two of the same item when you only intended to order one, contact us right away (within 24 hours) and we can take care of this and correct your order. But for example, if you order an ECF Seeder on Friday, and file a not received complaint with PayPal on Tuesday, you will be responsible for a 25% item price cancellation fee. Items like the ECF Seeders are made by hand. Depending on demand and the season, it might take 6-8 weeks to receive your seeder. Ginseng seed and rootlets are only available in the fall. Even though we accept advanced orders (as early as April or May for ginseng seed), you will not receive seed or rootlets until they begin shipping in the fall. Occasionally weather and other delays occur which are beyond our control. These kinds of situations do not justify the cancellation of a pending order.
Orders for dried roots, mushrooms, or other plant products may not be cancelled or returned and are non-refundable.Privacy
We naturally collect names and addresses (including email addresses and phone numbers) of customer who place orders with us or who register for access to our forum. This is necessary to properly conduct business with you. We may occasionally send promotional emails or contact you with special offers or information we believe you would like to receive (i.e., opening to accept seed orders). However, we never sell or share your information.
