50+ yr old root
« on: October 27, 2014, 01:34:34 AM »
While digging in a small patch of woods close to my home here in east tn , I happens on (as I was about to go in) a small three prong top. These woods are VERY old mind you. Anyway after digging down (with my hands only) through 8/10 inches of loam. I came to the longest neck of curls I may have ever seen. After another 8 inches of rich soil I extracted a small root that after I counted the scars was 52 yes. Old. It says on the net roots this old are extremely rare. What kinda price could I expect for such a root?

Hi T-bone...welcome to the forum.

You said the root was smallish, so I don't know if it will hold as much value as a collectible piece or not.  I would say a price of $50-100 isn't out of line for specialty prize roots -provided they are handled impeccably.  I know some sell for much more than that, however, the issue is in finding a buyer outside the normal market.
