General Ginseng Discussion / Re: Site Makeover

Thank you Sir.

I'm having trouble with email from my main site (castleen.com) which is only used for email.  But this site is a subdomain of that site.  We we need to migrate the sites to a different server.  I'm being told the forum might 'break' for a bit until I get things sorted out.  So hang on and buckle up!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and holiday season.

I think you would be better off time-wise to just wait until you can take pics of the plants this summer.  That is a much better way to tell what I plant is.

It's no problem I appreciate your input on it, would it help if I took more pictures of the roots? Or would it be better to just wait and get you pictures of the plants next summer?

Ginseng roots are pretty distinctive.  There are a couple roots I've seen which look similar to the one you have and many which look similar to the other.  Just no way to tell from those pictures for sure.  Sorry.

Thank you, do you know anyone else who could potentially identify the roots? Don't have any pictures of the plant could next year, but I have never seen anything like them... I would have dug these in ginseng harvesting time mid Sept. I did however find a ginseng seed still left in one of the berries that look just like the ones you can purchase. I'm in NC if that makes any difference, thanks again  :D.

Ok, looking at the pics you sent, I'm not sure what they are (looks like two different kind of roots) but they definitely are not ginseng.  In the future, it might be a better idea to take pictures of the live plant and wait for positive ID before you dig it.  Remember, there are laws which affect the harvest of ginseng.
