New to the forum, and I ran a search but found no real answers. Anyone know if it exists? I have over 1000 acres I could potentially search through, but I don't want to be looking for something that isn't there. Read about this fellow earlier who rolled through the Blue Ridge and Piedmont regions back in the 70's, planting seeds in an effort to keep our forests profitable, but I've read nothing about this happening in the Tidewater. I'm probably 45 minutes north of Richmond, lots of wooded areas, just don't know if it's there. What do you all think?

Welcome to the site Adamoradamn,
You are certainly well within the ginseng territory I think. It sure doesn't hurt to look. The ginseng should start popping up around the first week or two in April, and there are no laws against looking for it and even taking pictures...just don't dig it.

Right on. Sweet. Well, I'm Native American as well...I'm not sure if I have certain privileges to the stuff like I do with hunting game or fishing. But as long as I can hunt and put seeds back in the ground then I'm happy.

Way to be. Don't be afraid to post some pictrues for other to help identify.

No doubt, Brad. Looking around on other threads and you seem to be a helpful fella. Thanks a lot, man. I feel confident that I'll find some ginseng especially after today's research. Reading through all of the handbooks and research papers published over the years, between my friend's collection and our local library, and I've found evidence that ginseng does grow out here. Naturally. No reports on how the roots look, but I'd imagine they're not as impressive as prime root in better conditions. We're gonna find out though! We begin searching through the 1000 acres tomorrow, so wish me luck!

Lots of luck...but I think I'd wait until mid April to start looking ;)
