: Spam bot attacks

Hi everyone,

For the past week or so, we have been under a deluge of spam bot attacks.

They are creating literally thousands of errors on the forum, and signing up by the hundreds.  (in order to spam inappropriate messages on the forum)

Let me cut to the chase...  I don't have time to check out each and every one thouroughly.  Most of them are from countries who arn't interested in growing ginseng or helping us do that either.  They are becoming more sofisticated, so it is getting harder to tell who is and is not a bot.  However, when I think I might have found an honest new user, they turn out to be listed on every stop spam forum known to man.   I don't even have time now to ban them all, instead, I've started to just delete their membership to the forum.

Now here is the rub.

If I inadvertantly delete or ban someone who is interested in the forum, PLEASE contact me at brad AT EmeraldCastleFarms DOT com  and I'll get you set up.

Honestly, 99% of them are using gmail addresses, so I might just ban the use of gmail accounts.  What do you all think?  Would that negatively affect our prospective and current members?

Thanks!

The tide seems to have stemmed for the moment.  We'll see what happens.
